Welcome
Welcome to A Girl & Her Rescue Collie,
I am the very proud Mum to my two-year-old Rescue Border Collie Beanz, Aka Beanie Boy.
I decided to come up with the idea to write this blog when I was out walking Beanz one day. I have tried before to write a blog about myself and my Dyspraxia, but it fell flat after a while. I was struggling with what to write and how to write it, so I simply gave up. But there is one thing, or should I say one very special boy in my life that I could not be prouder of or happier to have in my life, and I could talk about him for days, with his little quirks, struggles, and achievements that he has made in the two years I have had him.
Now, about Beanz, where to begin, he came into my life on the 18th of November 2023 at the age of 8 months old. We got him from the local rescue centre, where he was placed with a foster family due to a lack of capacity at the centre.
I came home from work on the 15th of November after a long day to my parents, they were showing me different cans of Beans and then they pulled out a printed photo of my Beanie Boy.
On the 18th of November, we drove out to the foster family and collected him. The foster Mum pointed out to us that Beanz was a bit underweight and that he had one paw larger than the rest. She explained that it had been X-rayed; however, it was showing signs of being broken and left to heal on its own, leaving it to look misshapen. While we were there, he was very gentle and quiet, a bit shy around us, but when we brought him home, we had our 13-year-old Beagle, who was able to show him the ropes and make him comfortable, he started to come out of his shell more and more.
Beanz started to make himself at home after a few hours and a couple of Licky mats. Slowly but surely, he started to play with toys and our Beagle.
I want to document my experiences as a rescue Collie mum, sharing what I’ve learned as a first-time owner. I also want to show that while there are tough moments, there are also reminders of why adopting a rescue is rewarding, moments of magic and unconditional love that really is the silver lining on this magical journey.
I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I enjoyed writing it.
